Home Terminology:
Floating
home - A home built on a log or concrete
flatiron that floats on the water
Houseboat - Similar to a floating home, but with a motor.
Slip
- The "home site" or space at a moorage where a floating home
is located. Some moorages rent or lease slip space; others sell slip space.
Moorage
- A facility for mooring, or housing, floating homes.
Swim float - An extension of the deck of a floating home.
Pilings - Heavy timber or concrete that is used to form the foundation
for the dock. The floating homes are secured to the dock and rise higher
and drop lower as the river rises and falls.
Tenderhouse - Small floating buildings located behind many floating
homes in the same slip. They can be used for storage, guest quarters or
home offices.
Flotation - Log or concrete floats that provide the base upon which
floating homes are built.
Stringer
- The support beams that connect the logs in the flotation.
